Seedbed is perfect for lay leaders looking to start new churches, whether you’re joining a planting team, leading one, or just exploring this path.

Our goal is to develop a network of people skilled and passionate about revitalising the church through mission and church planting.

Church planting can take many forms; it does not necessarily involve moving house. It may mean starting a new congregation as part of your existing church, in your or neighbourhood, or joining a team planting nearby.

The year-long course is offered online and divided into themed blocks.

You’ll join an online group and learn from experienced leaders and trainers through a well-thought-out programme.

You’ll attend 28 evening sessions, totalling over 40 hours of learning.

Each week, you’ll have a task to do before the online session. These activities, like a prayer walk or watching a video, help you get ready and involved with the topic. This way, even with a busy schedule, you’re prepared to dive in and make the most of each lesson.

The Seedbed training is straightforward and practical, open to everyone, no matter your background.

You don’t need to be academic, a church leader or know where and when you want to plant a church.

There are no essays or written homework – it’s all about doing and learning. If you want to explore a topic more, we’ll suggest some reading.

If this isn’t for you, but you can think of others who might want to be part of Seedbed, please pass it along to them.

The next cohort of Seedbed starts on Thursday, 29th January 2026.

Seedbed is delivered by St Hild College Centre for Church Planting working with key trainers and speakers from the region.
